For those who relish good music and eat up fun…The Dinner Dogs, from Rochester, NY, are just the tasty treat you’ve been waiting for. Literary highlights include Addie Adam’s “The Night Trotter” (a mystical poem putting young listeners on the back of a black stallion for a wild ride through a powerful midnight storm); Joyce Sidman’s “Guwol and the King of Fish” (a retelling of a Yap Island folktale in which Guwol, in order to retrieve his father’s prized fish hook, must confront the Fish King in his underwater kingdom); and “The White Rose” by Katherine Rollins (a story in which Princess Marta puts aside petty envy and befriends a neighboring princess).

Special Guest: Meet The Dinner Dogs
Take three well-seasoned musicians, add a dash of spicy zydeco, a hint of the crunchiest rock, and a pinch of rhythm and blues.  Stir it up, let it boil over, and serve hot!  That's The Dinner Dogs.  This fun-loving trio offers their unique fare to listeners hungry for exciting original music, and we are very happy to feature four of their songs here.

The Dinner Dogs are Dick Leschhorn (keyboards and vocals), Tim Clark (guitar and vocals), and LuAnn Arena (vocals).  Original group vocalist Kate Silverman also appears on two of the songs in this issue of Shoofly (Hippity Hop....Hop and T-Rex).  Their 1996 release, Meet the Dinner Dogs, received Parents' Choice Honors.  When they are not writing and recording, The Dinner Dogs are very busy performing in concert halls, schools, and auditoriums.  Their show is one that both parents and children of a wide age range can enjoy.  The messages are positive and timely, the comedy is fresh, yet the music is performed by seasoned professionals who know how to stir up the crowd and make them bubble over with joy.

Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Winner, 1996
EdPress Distinquished Achievement Award Winner, 1996
Parents’ Choice Approved, 1995
